Foundations Course - Reading a Chart
The aim of this Foundations Course - Reading a Chart is to teach you how to combine the components necessary to begin reading charts and to show you how they link together in a way that is meaningful to a person.
Girolamo Cardano (1501–1576) likened this procedure to building a house: laying out the parts contributed nothing to the actual building of the house. It was knowing how they combined that gave the house/chart three-dimensionality and strength.
The Foundations Course - Reading a Chart teaches you the groundwork of how a chart works and unpacks what is necessary to begin reading a chart with clarity and insight. The Course is presented with an overview, followed by twelve lectures where we cover the basic components and how they combine in a chart to give complex meanings that are relevant to a person's life. Each lecture consists of a 12-15 minute video with clear chart examples to help you understand the key points. Also, there are extra downloadable support materials (PDFs) provided.
Course Content
LECTURE 1 – Essential Dignities covers the relationship that a planet has to the ‘landscape’ of the zodiac where its strengths and difficulties lie.
LECTURE 2 – Angular Houses covers the angular houses and the meanings they add to a chart.
LECTURE 3 – Succeedent Houses covers the succeedent houses and the meanings they add to a chart.
LLECTURE 4 – Cadent Houses covers the cadent houses and the meanings they add to a chart
LLECTURE 5 – House Rulerships covers house rulerships and how they impact on the location of a planet.
LECTURE 6 – The Ascendant and its Ruler covers the important technique of the meaning of the Ascendant and the placement of its ruler.
LECTURE 7 – Personal Planetary Combinations
covers the aspects that the two luminaries make to the inner planets and Jupiter.
LECTURE 8 – Planetary Combination: inners to outers covers the narratives that are created when the Sun, Moon or any of the inner planets forms a connection with Saturn, Uranus, Neptune or Pluto.
LECTURE 9 – Aspects: stresses and tensions covers the meanings of the hard aspects between planets and luminaries.
LECTURE 10 – Aspects: ease and flow covers the meanings of the hard aspects between planets and luminaries.
LLECTURE 11 – The Lunation Cycle covers the Lunation Cycle, the connection between the Sun and the Moon.
LECTURE 12 – Reading the Pattern shows you how to synthesize the parts to create a dynamic whole using single aspects in a chart.

Software
We will be using the astrological software, Solar Fire, for all examples given in the course, but you can use any astrological chart- calculating software.

Dr Darrelyn Gunzburg
The lecturer is Darrelyn Gunzburg who holds a PhD from the University of Bristol. Her research examined the astrology and cosmology contained within the Salone fresco scheme of the Palazzo della Ragione in Padua, c.1309. She also holds a BA (Hons) degree in History of Art from the Open University, UK and a Diploma of Directing from NIDA (Sydney Australia). Prior to her life in the UK, she worked as an award-winning playwright in Australia, including the Samuel Weisberg Award (1990), twice nominated for an Awgie Award, and an Awgie winner in 1991.
